Together we can turn the tide for our state and our country.
We all want utopia. But the truth is, that’s not possible for all of us, not without trampling the rights of others. But we can get close. The answer is more freedom not less, transparency for those in power and accountability for the ones who abuse it.
Alabama's ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) board is a made up of unelected officials with the power to choose which businesses survive and which businesses suffocate and die. During the pandemic we saw plenty of government overreach, some of which coming from our own ABC board that affected small business owners and their employees. What was the deciding factor that allowed some to stay open while others had mandated curfews? The ABC Board is a tradition of antiquity. The anti-capitalistic and anti-freedom bureaucratic agency has been around for nearly a century, and it's stranglehold on free enterprise in the Dixie State cannot be understated.
Read MoreCareer politicians are often funded by “donations” from special interests. In America, they are called “campaign contributions”, and are even incentivized by tax breaks. This is nothing short of legal bribery. Our elected officials spend more time asking for donations than on legislative work.
Read MoreThomas Jefferson once wrote that, “A republic doesn't expect people to serve for life or to have career politicians or permanent bureaucrats." Reggie doesn’t believe in career politicians either. The current state representative has been in power for over four decades. This should not be allowed in our state. We’ve all seen what happens to politicians who have spent too much time in the swamp that is politics. Term limits need to be implemented.
There are currently more illegal substances flooding into the United States than ever with no signs of slowing. What if our governments' policies were redirected? What if instead of endlessly funding a losing "War on Drugs," we would fund a "War on Poverty?" Our money would no longer go to waste. Why don't we fund community centers and job centers to improve the neighborhoods most affected and give them opportunities to break the cycle of addiction. Reggie knows education is the key to our next generation thriving, and the new billions infused into our public education system would drastically improve life for all Americans.
For too long, our state and children have suffered from a lack of educational funding while our neighbors thrive. Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi all have lotteries that supplement their educational funds. Many Alabamians travel across state lines to fill the pockets of our neighbors when we could be filling our own. Our educational system ranks DEAD LAST in the nation. The money that’s spent in other states for lottery tickets, numbers in the billions. That revenue would bolster our educational system allowing for more support staff, play grounds, extracurricular activities, technology and more for our children, and would help Alabama rise. It is time we implement a fair and partial lottery system to benefit all Alabamians.
Read MoreWith the increase in gas prices, so too have the prices on store items risen to account for the added transport cost. Between housing and utility payments, medications, other costs of living and the over 8 percent rise in inflation, the extra 4 percent on groceries is forcing many families to make tough choices on where their hard earned dollars go. Alabamians need a break. Currently, two bills are being looked at in the 2022 regular session that would end the state grocery tax while protecting school funding. Reggie too is an advocate for both eliminating the state grocery tax hurting many Alabamians, and finding alternative sources to school funding.
Local law enforcement celebrates the inhumane but LEGAL practice of civil asset forfeiture where YOUR personal assets are seized without any proof of guilt. The authorities can confiscate you, your possessions, and/or your property, and the burden of proof is on YOU to prove your innocence. Civil asset forfeiture directly contradicts the fourth amendment. In America, you should be innocent until proven guilty and not the other way around. It is an incredibly unamerican practice, and Reggie firmly believes that if the people knew of the exercise, Alabamians would end it immediately.
